Laura Jean Smith

Laura Jean Smith of Milton worked as a housekeeper at a number of hotels. Her younger brother Brian Terrier says Smith could be stubborn, but she took care of those she cared about. He says growing up their family had been poor and with eight kids, they struggled.

"When we were younger she pretty much looked out for us, you know. Way back when, she was kind of rugged. For instance, my mom wanted to go out for a drink, she’d never been to a bar and stuff, and we went out to the bar with my mother and my sister, and some guy was giving her sh-- you know, and boy she took that guy, picked him up and set him on the bar and said, 'Leave me the hell alone.' That’s how kinda she was."

Terrier says his sister was widowed and had diabetes. While life had been hard for her, he says she never gave up. Laura Jean Smith died on Dec. 31, 2020. She was 75. She's survived by her daughter Miabella Foley.
