    Margaret Guthrie

Margaret Guthrie met her husband Terry when she was working at an old pharmacy in Burlington. They were married for 45 years following what Margaret's daughter Diane Bean called a "whirlwind romance:" Margaret loved to cook and prepare all kinds of food. Baked ham was a specialty, and so was a certain dessert dish. Margaret spoke fluent French as well as English and loved donating her time.

"My mom was working at the counter in McGregor's, and my dad was stationed at the fort. And he went in and he saw her — he hadn't met her or anything — and he told his buddy, 'That's the girl I'm going to marry right there.' And two weeks later, he asked her to marry him, and she accepted ... She always had these jello salads she would make, with jello with fruit, and everybody seemed to love 'em ... She worked at the Fannie Allen in the gift shop ... she did all that volunteering. She would make all these little doll outfits at Christmas for different children. "

Margaret Guthrie died on Dec. 12, 2020, at Elderwood nursing home in Burlington. She was 86.
