    Robert Kirkbride

Robert Kirkbride was the kind of guy who would show up early for town meeting and sit in the first row asking tough questions the whole time. His daughter Martha Chessie says in the almost 70 years he lived in Ludlow, he definitely ruffled some feathers.

"He was very gruff, he spoke his mind. Some people took him, you know, were offended by maybe what he said. But he was well respected by so many. You wish that he would know how many people loved him."

Kirkbride was active in the volunteer fire department, rotary, and the Knights of Columbus right up until his death. This year's annual report was dedicated to Kirkbride. After he died, his body was carried to the cemetery in the same antique fire truck he used to ride in during Ludlow's annual Memorial Day parade. Robert Kirkbride died on March 19, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction. He was 93.
